Youth Bowling Program
Our program provides opportunities for kids to learn a new sport, make new friends & make amazing memories to last a lifetime.

At St James Lanes, we work hard to provide all kids an enriching experience, while keeping it affordable for all families! Our curriculum, coaches, fun events & classes provide your child with experiences that can be applied both on and off the lanes.
Our program's goal is to ensure everyone feels included and is having fun!

St James Lanes' Youth Program follows Youth Bowl Canada & Manitoba Rules & Regulations. Our goal is to create a program that is inclusive, affordable and fun for all. Our coaches work together to provide an amazing learning environment, teaching kids bowling techniques, sportsmanship, psychology techniques, & life skills to be used on and off the lanes!

Our program is associated with Youth Bowl Canada & Manitoba and is split into 4 divisions based on age
Bowlasaurus - U8
Bantam - U11
Junior - U14
Senior - U19

Coaches: All our coaches are volunteers, that have been involved in the bowling scene. They vary in sport Manitoba training & certifications from Learn to Train (Level 2) to Sport for Life (Level 1). They are all required a valid Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector & their Respect in Sport training.

Teams: Teams are formed based on age & skill level and can change throughout the season. We do our best to ensure player play on pairs with people they are friends with, while also try to encourage mingling and including everyone .

Equipment: Bowling shoe rentals are included in fees, players can decided to purchase their own shoes, balls and personalize jersey & towels but none are required.

Tournaments: There are various tournaments throughout the season, players will be encouraged to compete in and/or attempt to qualify for. Most tournaments run Sundays throughout the season, with the schedule being posted well in advanced. They are completely optional! All tournament registration fees will be cover by the program except Single & Double Provincials.

Fundraisers: Multiple fundraisers will be run throughout the season to help maintain low costs, we ask every child to participate to the best of their ability.

St James Lanes Youth Bowling program fees include : Youth Bowl Canada & Manitoba registration, 32 weeks of bowling, practice time on lanes with coaches, development, and other operating costs required to run the program

Fees do not include practice time outside of team practices or skill development with a coach, or tournament registration for Singles & Double Provincial Qualifying or tournament lineage.

Fees are required to be paid by September 28th!

Jersey & towel fees are not included in fees and an optional purchase. Option to purchase is available at time of registration

Skill Days: Coaches work with group of athletes on or off the lanes, focusing on specific skills. Kids not involved in the week's lessons will bowl their games normal, while the kids involved in the current week's lessons will be moved to separate lanes

Seasonal Parties: Fun seasonal themed games and events will take place in place of regular bowling!

Theme Weeks: Themes announced in advance, voted on with athletes opinions taking into consideration. Activities and events planned with theme, inclusivity and development in mind.

Pizza, Hot Dog, Pancake Days: A fundraising incentive for the program! On these days we will be selling pizza, hot dogs or pancake breakfast for $5 a person with all proceeds going directly to the program!

Tournament Qualifying: Qualifying days mean athletes scores are counting towards qualifying for teams for upcoming tournaments. Tournaments with qualifying include: Master Bantam Junior, Hi/Low Doubles, Combos, Singles & Doubles. Qualifying is generally done using a pins over average calculation except Singles & Doubles which uses a scratch calculation.

In House Tournaments: In house tournaments are friendly competitions put on to test athletes skills

Bowlympics: Annual event St James Youth Program holds, taking a bunch of skills and turning them into Olympic events. Kids team up and name their teams after countries and compete against each other. This event combines fun & skill development and is a awesome time all around!

Wind Up / Banquet: End of the year celebration! We get together for a meal and celebrate all the kids and their accomplishments throughout the season! Guest & family members are invited to join in the celebration, banquet tickets are sold at a cost, to help cover the cost of the meal & directly back into the program.

Can I join even if I am not a good bowling?
All bowlers are given a average based on their weekly scores, and to ensures that everyone is on a level playing field, most tournaments play with a pin over average scoring system. You are really working towards improving on your past performance each time you play .
There's a team of coaches whos sole job is to encourage you and help you improve so you can learn and get better!
Can I join even if I am not a good bowling?
