Friday Night All-Stars: Week 7 Preview

Match #1 – ENNS vs. B. JEFFERS

Both teams are coming into Week 7 off much needed wins last week. Only 5.5 points separate these two on the season, in favour of Team B. Jeffers, so this will be a battle for position. Glen Howarth will return to the anchor position after his big 1124 last week. This will make for a fairly even match. I would not expect anyone to run away with their match, look for it to be a lot of back and forth. Both Scott Saunderson and Dwight Hurd had big games last week in the leadoff position, so it should be interesting to see if that momentum carries into Week 7.

Key Matchup

Watch the matchup in the second position. It should be Adam Williamson versus Garry Bell. You’ve got two competitive guys going head-to-head and I expect to see at least one of them getting fired up. Gary was shutout last week with a lackluster performance, he should be driven to try and get back on the board early.

Tyson’s Pick: Team B. Jeffers

Trevor’s Pick: Team Enns

Match #2 – C. JEFFERS vs. HURD

This match will be a close one... is what I would like to say however, the numbers speak for themselves. You have the top team in the league versus the last place team with 81.5 points separating them in the standings and approximately 100 pins per game difference in average. Al Bristow will have the closest matchup facing Ryan Bannerman being only 10 pins lower in average. After that the rest of Team C. Jeffers will need to break out bowling we have not seen from them this season to have a chance in this match. Team Hurd will have some major lineup shifting as captain Chad Hurd will drop to the second position, Brett Hendrickson to the third position and the team will be anchored by Kevin Naugler.

Key Matchup

Team C. Jeffers as a whole. They need to find their rhythm and put consistent game totals over 900 to get themselves in this match.

Tyson’s Pick: Team Hurd

Trevor’s Pick: Team Hurd

Match #3 – BARTRAM vs. KING

Neither of these teams has had an ideal start, both will be looking to start their climb up the standings tonight. The one high point being Derek Sanderson is coming off a week where he shot his first 300, a 333, so he should have more confidence coming into tonight which might be needed against a seasoned veteran like Patrick Walker. Cordell Galbecka continues to be a wildcard at anchor for Team Bartram and hasn’t yet shown signs of consistent anchor level bowling. He will be facing Wayne King who just barely is edging Karen Armstrong out of the anchor spot.

Key Matchup

The second and third positions are where ground will be gained or lost in this match. Karen Armstrong and Patrick Walker will be at an advantage to Jeston Bartram and Derek Sanderson respectively, meaning Jeston and Derek won’t have much room for error tonight.

Tyson’s Pick: Team King

Trevor’s Pick: Team King

Match #4 – LOURENCO vs. DEVENNEY

Team Lourenco was not firing on all cylinders last week and got run over by a red-hot Team Hurd. Team Devenney on the other hand is coming off a grinding 16.5-point week. Neither team bowled well in their respective matches with the exception of a couple high games and a respectable 919 from Neil Stewart of Team Devenney. Team Lourenco leadoff Sam Hunt has had a week off and if she can find her groove tonight, I feel that would be enough to give them the edge in this match.

Key Matchup

The leadoff position is where the attention should be in this match. Holly Chaikowski looked a lot more like herself last week, which might be a sign that she is coming out of this early season funk. If she continues on that pace, she will provide a big boost to her team that could really even things up. Sam Hunt will need to bring some energy and solid bowling to keep up with Holly.

Tyson’s Pick: Team Lourenco

Trevor’s Pick: Team Lourenco

Match #5 – COUSINS vs. COOK

Team Cook continues to climb up the rankings with another win last week, while Team Cousins is trending in the opposite direction. Cindy Cousins dominated in the second position last week but unfortunately did not have much support from her team, including Gillian LaMonica who has been bowling well this season until shooting her worst week of the season thus far. On the other side Team Cook should be carrying some momentum into this week with Jayson May coming off a big 1082 night and backed by solid performances from third Alyssa Campbell and anchor Trevor Cook. Aside from the leadoff position Team Cook has a clear advantage in all positions.

Key Matchup

Trevor Cook versus Char McIvor will be the biggest make or break matchup tonight. Trevor is one of the highest averages in the league at 252, giving him over a 30-pin advantage that Char will need to make up if she hopes to give her team a chance.

Tyson’s Pick: Team Cook

Trevor’s Pick: Team Cook

Match #6 – STEVENSON vs. ORNE

Team Stevenson is coming off a tough loss where their top half dominated but the bottom half struggled to keep up with their respective matchups. Team Orne is coming off the complete opposite as they nearly swept all their points in the third and anchor position but only managed a single point between the top half of the lineup. Erik Stewart and Jennifer Duncan are coming off subpar performances and I would expect to see them bounce back this week. Darren Maxwell seemed to get something going last week boasting a respectful 1046 and looking much more like the anchor we would be expecting. Team Stevenson is without their captain for tonight and anchor spares will be at a premium with many anchor level bowlers away at TPC this weekend

Key Matchup

The third position could be a key factor in this one as you have Linda Orne who has been shooting consistently all year, going against Jayden Nickerson who jumped up to the third position. Jayden will have his work cut out for him but if he can keep up and Team Stevenson has a quality anchor spare, I believe this will be a close match.

Tyson’s Pick: Team Orne

Trevor’s Pick: Team Orne

Match #7 – YOUZWA vs. GELARDI

This match is going to feature a lot of unknowns as at least three bowlers are away at TPC and I have no knowledge of spares. Team Youzwa has been heavily dependent on their anchor this season so a good performance from his spare will be critical. The same can be said for Team Gelardi though as they are without Dwayne Gelardi who is always a threat to shoot big games and Robbie Hendrickson who has been a solid utility player jumping between the top three spots in the lineup. Without focusing on the spares, as they are a complete wildcard, Team Gelardi is one of the most well-rounded teams in the league and are never an easy point at any position.

Key Matchup

The top half of the lineup for Team Youzwa will need to pick up their socks and come to bowl tonight because a so-so kind of night won’t cut it. If we see above average scores from Mark Prystupa and Jenna Gillrie this could become a match. Otherwise, Team Gelardi could run away early with this one.

Tyson’s Pick: Team Gelardi

Trevor’s Pick: Team Gelardi

Match #8 – LAMONICA vs. RODYCH

Another match missing some bowlers to the TPC tournament, however both of them are from Team LaMonica. Micheal Young will be filling in for one of them but not sure who else will be sparing. The Rodych team is coming off a week where they shot one of the highest single game totals of any team 1083. This however was short lived before they fell back into old habits and only walked away with one total on the night. They will look to build on the Week 6 game 1 though and carry more of that into this week. Especially Hailey Roberts who has struggled thus far in the season, it was encouraging to see her have a big game and solid week.

Key Matchup

The top half of the lineup will be a crucial factor as Team Rodych has the fewest points combined between their leadoff and second bowlers of any pair in the league. They may be able to get away with a little more as long as Matt Rodych keeps up current pace. But if Team LaMonica can match him with whoever their spare is, then that top half of Hailey Roberts and Carter Schade need to go toe-to-toe with Cyndie Barnett and Jeff Bradshaw, both solid in their positions

Tyson’s Pick: Team LaMonica

Trevor’s Pick: Team LaMonica

Prediction Records
