Prediction Records
Tyson Nelson: 35 – 29 – 0 Previous Week: 7-1-0
Trevor Cook: 36 – 28 – 0 Previous Week: 7-1-0
Match #1 – Rodych vs. King
Two teams trending in very different directions, Team Rodych currently in last place while Team King slowly climbs towards the top half of the standings. With a 10-pin advantage at every position but anchor this would put on a lot of pressure Team Rodych’s anchor which will be a spare in place of Matt Rodych. Given this is the first week back after an extended holiday break I am expecting this to be a lower scoring match. Given their recent success I would expect Team King, especially captain Wayne King to come in with a fair amount of confidence this week.
Key Matchup
Watch for the seconds in this match, Patrick Walker versus Carter Schade. Patrick is coming off his high week of the season, but it is still to be seen if he remembers what he did and if he can continue it in Week 13. On the other side Carter comes in at a 20-pin deficit and will need to find a new rhythm, something different from what he was doing in the first part of the season, if he wants to keep up with Patrick.
Tyson’s Pick: Team King
Trevor’s Pick: Team King
Match #2 – Lourenco vs. C. Jeffers
Team Lourenco is a bit of a wildcard this week as Tabatha Gelardi is the only full-time member bowling this week, and will rely primarily on spares. Team C. Jeffers finally crawled out of last place, and team confidence is at a high, with Tim Hooper even being so bold as to say they will be a A-side team come playoffs. Even with the additional firepower of Anthony Novak, Team C. Jeffers is likely outgunned in this one. I think we will see close matchups between Tabatha and Al Bristow, as well as in the second position as well.
Key Matchup
Watch the third position Tim Hooper is the lowest averaging bowler in this position so most likely he will still come in at a disadvantage even if the blind score is used in place of Belle Lourenco. This is a matchup where Tim will need to bring his A-game and prove he can win in this position. This match will go to whichever team wins the battle of the third and anchor positions.
Tyson’s Pick: Team Lourenco
Trevor’s Pick: Team Lourenco
Match #3 – Devenney vs. LaMonica
The current top of the league Team LaMonica is facing off with Team Devenney who over the last three weeks has only managed 28 combined points. These two teams are fairly even at anchor but beyond that Team LaMonica has an undeniable advantage. If Team Devenney can get double digit points I think they should consider that a personal win for the week. Sam Gelardi has found his groove at anchor recently averaging right around the 250-mark the last month before the break, I wouldn’t expect that to change much.
Key Matchup
Watch the leadoff and second position, this is where Team Devenney has their best chance to pick up points. If Neil Stewart and Holly Chaikowski can find their timing early on they could really put Cindy Barnett and Jeff Bradshaw on their heels.
Tyson’s Pick: Team LaMonica
Trevor’s Pick: Team LaMonica
Match #4 – Hurd vs. B. Jeffers
Playing law of averages on this one and saying that Team Hurd who has lost their last six weeks is overdue for a win. With Brett Hendrickson claiming the anchor role once again Team Hurd is likely to bring additional confidence. As it is Brett will still come in as a slight underdog to current league high average Tyson Nelson. Team B. Jeffers also come in as favourites at leadoff with Scott Saunderson having a 13-pin advantage over Ryan Bannerman.
Key Matchup
The interior positions are where Team Hurd can really do a lot of damage. Coming in as one of the only teams with a second position bowler over 220, Chad Hurd definitely will not be an easy matchup for fellow captain Ben Jeffers. Adam Williamson had a small slip up prior to the Christmas break but had been showing signs as a very capable third before that. Kevin Naugler would be a true test of that this week.
Tyson’s Pick: Team Hurd
Trevor’s Pick: Team B. Jeffers
Match #5 – Cook vs. Enns
Two teams on highs right now; Team Cook coming off their biggest win of the season, and Team Enns who had the 3rd best point total over the last three weeks. Dave Priestley versus Dwight Hurd will be a close matchup at leadoff, same with the battle at anchor between Trevor Cook and Glen Howarth. Trevor is always a big game threat so I would expect to give him a slight edge, especially with bowling multiple leagues he is less likely to have any holiday rust.
Key Matchup
The make or break for this match will most likely be at the third position between Alyssa Campbell and Craig Enns. Craig is a consistent bowler, generally safe to assume he will be around that 900-920 range, but he has yet to hit the 1000-mark this season. Alyssa Campbell on the other hand has a higher potential ceiling, but with additional risk of shooting a sub-900 week.
Tyson’s Pick: Team Enns
Trevor’s Pick: Team Cook
Match #6 – Bartram vs. Stevenson
Team Stevenson has struggled to string wins together this season and Team Bartram has struggled just to get wins. I think we are likely to see a good matchup at anchor with Dylan Stevenson facing Jeston Bartram, two young energetic captains who will be well rested after the break. Where Team Stevenson will really chip away at Team Bartram is the top two positions. Tyler Reynolds still holds one of the highest win percentages in the league and Erik Stewart is a threat to shoot some big games.
Key Matchup
Watch those top half matchups with Colton Harris and Derek Sanderson facing Erik and Tyler
respectively. Both Colton and Derek will need to limit the mistakes and throw some good games if they hope to keep it close.
Tyson’s Pick: Team Stevenson
Trevor’s Pick: Team Stevenson
Match #7 – Orne vs. Youzwa
Team Orne will look to bounce back after a tough loss right before the break, but it won’t be easy against Team Youzwa who is averaging 21 points/week over the last five weeks. Team Orne boasts one of the strongest third/anchor combos in the league, unfortunately for them they are going up against arguably the best third/anchor combo in Chloe Fleming and Colton Youzwa. The second position sees two bowlers who both had slow starts to the season, David Wastle and Jenna Gillrie, but both seemed to find their timing leading up to the break. If they both continue where they left off it should be a good matchup.
Key Matchup
The leadoff position can provide a solid foundation for Team Orne to build on as Jennifer Duncan comes in as a heavy favourite over Mark Prystupa. Mark had a rough finish before the break so I would expect him to come back refreshed and ready to bowl.
Tyson’s Pick: Team Youzwa
Trevor’s Pick: Team Youzwa
Match #8 – Cousins vs. Gelardi
Team Cousins has had a rough time the past few weeks taking fewer than 10 points in two of the last three matches, and things won’t get any easier going against a Gelardi team that has the most 20+ point weeks in the league. Team Cousins will easily be able to hold their own in the lead off and third positions but Team Gelardi has a distinct advantage when it comes to second and anchor bowlers. Robbie Hendrickson is always a big game threat if he gets hot on any given night whereas Shannon is still looking for that first 900+ week. This will be an uphill battle for her.
Key Matchup
The anchor matchup between Cindy Cousins and Dwayne Gelardi is the make or break in this match. Dwayne is one of the few bowlers around that 250-mark this season and Cindy will need to show she can compete if she wants to keep her team in it. That being said I could easily see this matchup having both bowlers shoot over 1000.
Tyson’s Pick: Team Gelardi
Trevor’s Pick: Team Gelardi
